About

Tara LaShawn Seabrook, M.Div, MTS

cropped-home-photo911.jpgWith over 20 years of nonprofit experience, Tara has worked in the community development and campus ministry arenas in Washington DC, Tallahassee FL, and Greensboro NC.  A native of James Island, SC, she returned to Charleston, SC in 2017 after completing a two-year volunteer-in-mission assignment in Guatemala, and after being away from home for 28 years.  An avid writer, blogger, public theologian, and spoken word artist, she loves integrating creativity into solution-based multi-sensory strategies that help her clients work towards wholeness and becoming the best version of themselves.

Tara holds a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theological Studies from Wesley Theological Seminary, as well as a Bachelor of Architecture from Howard University.   In 2013, she received a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University and the following year, she became a Certified Resilience Coach through the HeartMath Institute.  Tara–who considers herself a womanist, a mystic, and an urban contemplative–is currently working on her first book based on her original poem entitled “I Am She.”

Grounded in a womanist approach, she affirms the inextricable link between spirituality and justice through storytelling, spoken word, movement, and other healing modalities.  Her work at the intersection of spirituality, justice, and creativity seeks to disrupt false narratives and restore dignity to those traumatized at the intersections of race, class, gender, etc., while manifesting shalom in practical and tangible ways.
